In my mind, Rolex’s greatest creation is not any one of their watches, but in their pioneering and creating the iconic luxury brand- Rolex, which in many ways has set the stage for our current culture.   40 years as a Jeweler leaves me amazed by the power of their branding and its impact on modern marketing.

This is in no way meant to underplay the importance of Rolex’s innovations in their watches. No doubt, without their ground breaking work with the oyster case and the automatic movement, their branding would not have cut through the noise of the time. People’s experience of wearing a Rolex backed up the talk.

One has to wonder, what is in the future for the watch in an age of magical electronics. Think Dick Tracy and Apple watch!
